Shalimar perfume is one of the most famous perfumes in the world. It is also the world's most expensive perfume. The legend of Shalimar began in 1934 when it had its debut at the Paris International Exhibition. The then president of the Guerlain company, Pierre Guerlain, wanted to create an opulent fragrance that would be worthy of the company's 200 year tradition of French perfumery.
The perfume's provocative name was derived from the Hindu word for "temple" and the place in France where the rose was discovered. Guerlain's intention was to evoke the exotic scents of the East that had captivated Westerners for centuries. The perfume bottle's iconic design was inspired by the Taj Mahal. The perfume was marketed as the fragrance of the modern woman, who was strong, elegant, and confident. The perfume's distinctive fragrance was created by blending citrus, jasmine, wood, and vanilla.
